InspirASIAN National President’s Message
It blows my mind that in a few weeks, we’ll already be in the second quarter of this year. 2019 has already been an exciting and eventful year for our company, and I hope everyone enjoyed their new year celebrations with friends and family. Looking back, I’m amazed at how I thought the world only celebrated New Year on first of January. Being exposed to a diverse workforce and community, I have enjoyed learning the different ways we rejoice in the New Year over days or even weeks with unique food, decorations and traditions.
With the New Year, I’d like to share one of our 2019 initiatives – Igniting Possibilities. InspirASIAN chapters across our footprint will be partnering with non-profits and connecting teens to our own professional and social communities to help them achieve success in the United States. These non-profits are in underserved communities and includes immigrants, refugees and at-risk students.
One of the platforms we are using to do outreach is CareerVillage, an online AT&T sponsored volunteer program that engages volunteers in giving students career advice quickly and easily using any device on any day at any time. You can be located anywhere in the U.S. to participate!
Signing up is easy:
1. Create a profile: Visit the AT&T page (https://www.careervillage.org/partner/att/signup/) and sign up as a “Professional” via LinkedIn or email address. (It takes 2 minutes to sign up!)
2. Follow topics you are an expert on: Once you’ve registered, make sure you’re following at least 6 topics and that these topics are general. This will help CareerVillage.org find student questions you can answer. Use topics students would use when posting questions (e.g. business, finance, marketing, sales, etc.).
3. Update your email notifications: When a student asks a question that matches your area of expertise, we’ll send you an email notification alerting you that a student needs your advice. Let us know how often you want to hear from a student by updating your settings!
Show your pride and support for InspirASIAN and Igniting Possibilities:
1. View your impact on the leaderboard: See the impact you, your ERG(s), and the company is making on the site real-time like pieces of advice given, views on advice, and successful referrals by going to AT&T Leaderboard.
2. Save your InspirASIAN Affiliation: Mark yourself as a member of your ERG by marking yourself as “InspirASIAN” during the signup process or via the pop-up box on the leaderboard!
3. Join the Igniting Possibilities group once you have created your CareerVillage account by going to your Account settings linked here. (https://www.careervillage.org/settings/groups/)! From this group page, you will be able to directly answer questions from students who part of the Igniting Possibilities initiative.
I urge you to make a difference in a young person’s life and join me in Igniting Possibilities by participating with your local Chapter or online through CareerVillage.org. Here’s to an amazing 2019!
Volunteer to help youth ignite their possibilities!
Igniting Possibilities is InspirASIAN’s signature community service initiative that aims to support refugee and immigrant teens by connecting them to our own professional and social communities to help them achieve success in the United States.
We are asking each Chapter to develop a program that is most relevant to its local community, so we can meet young people where they are. Some examples of positive outcomes we hope to achieve include motivating youth to stay in school through tours, job shadow or other confidence building activities; connecting youth with AT&T technology or innovations; or virtual mentoring.
Be a part of this effort by asking your Chapter President or Community Service Chair on how to participate!
Dare to Be
To Ignite Possibilities, it starts with a DARE TO BE proclamation.
Join our “DARE TO BE” campaign to raise money for our scholarship program. Donate on this page and include an “I DARE TO BE” proclamation to show the world what Igniting Possibilities is about.
It’s a FUN way to support a good cause along with learning more about our colleagues and friends. It could be something as simple as “I DARE TO BE content” or it could be daring like “I DARE TO BE able to rock climb”. The “DARE TO BE” campaign is fluid and dynamic. Depending on your mindset, mood or time of day there are many insightful “DARE TO BE’s” that are waiting to surface. Submit as many “DARE TO BE’s” as you would like and donate as many times as you want!
We challenge all InspirASIAN chapters, colleagues, family and friends to help us Ignite Possibilities within ourselves and our students!
